Facebook's $800M investment in a datacenter in Gallatin, Tennessee was a big deal. The city jumped at the chance to tag along on a media tour, and Gallatin was the only outlet shooting video (rather than boring photos).
Union Elementary in Gallatin has been doing this Monarch Butterfly release for several years. While they raised 1,000 butterflies, only 100 survived with terrible diseases that are driving the butterfly to extinction. Kids, butterflies and a cause...that's good content.
Part of my job is organizing monument restorations at the Gallatin City Cemetery. Community events like these have changed my life, and regardless of my employment I'll always get involved with events like these.
I was given full access to the last game of the Miracle League in Gallatin. This is one of those shoots where you are a little different after the experience. I shared with the Nashville media, and Fox 17 aired it on the their 10pm news.
When I'm shooting a story, I seldom make a cameo appearance, but you'll find me toward the end of this video getting a hug and trying a bite of BBQ...both were truly amazing. This is a great example of embedding myself in a situation and walking out the other end a changed person.
Gallatin's Flower Lady is a major hit on social media. This cherished flower garden was well documented before it reverted back to a parking lot in 2021. The flower lady continues to sew seeds all over Gallatin.
Using Prezi and more than 30 videos, the City hosts an annual State of the City Presentation produced by Hentschel and former news anchor Mayor Paige Brown. Every year the presentation dazzles those who are used to seeing bullets in a Powerpoint presentation.
Sometimes the media just doesn't show up to something that the community wants to experience. I documented an historic F-4 Phantom that has been in Gallatin for more than 25 years being prepped for transfer to Florida. This plane will be displayed in honor of General Benjamin Oliver Davis Jr., the first Black Brigadier General in the USAF. The post has a respectable 10,000 views on Facebook.
